'Questions & Answers no.1'
As part of a series of artist commissions launched to coincide with the opening of the new Focal Point Gallery in autumn 2013, American artist Allen Ruppersberg will undertake a unique public artwork for the exterior façade of the new building.
A pioneer of Conceptual Art, Ruppersberg began exhibiting in Los Angeles in the late 1960s. Ruppersberg’s work examines language, image, printed material and employs objects such as magazines, commercial adverts, postcards and vinyl records.
Spanning the entrance to the square that forms the forecourt of the gallery, this new commission will consist of a series of day-glo posters appropriated with spontaneous poetry, illustrations and common phrases.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, 1944, Ruppersberg now lives and works in New York City and Santa Monica, California. He has exhibited at institutions such as The Art Institute of Chicago, (2012), Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2011), New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2011), Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2010 to 2011), Museum of Modern Art, New York (2009), Camden Arts Centre, London (2008), Studio Guenzani, Milan (2009), Centro Andaluz de Arts Contemporáneo, Seville (2006), Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee, Scotland (2006), Kunsthalle, Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf (2005).
